Recovery Course

The second part of the Conversation about the future course is designed for active citizens who want to make changes in their communities
About

The experimental Conversation about the Future course [2024] began with a motivational meeting and made it clear that the driving force for change and the basis for community resilience is faith in the future. It is this belief that stimulates group efforts and promotes changes that have a positive impact on the overall state of the community.

The group sessions from February to June 2024 as part of the Conversation about the Future course were the impetus for a deep analysis of the village’s problems and the formation of a vision for its future. The results of the training exceeded expectations:

  • formed an active group of active residents who offer original products to the village guests;
  • the participants learned to identify and solve problems related to group culture, quality of relationships, and communication on their own;
  • created an MVP that allowed the group to provide tourism services.

The most important result is that the students changed their attitude to the future and showed their readiness for further education. The Recovery course was developed at the request of the participants. It is suitable for all groups ready to take responsibility for the future of their communities.

The main goal of the course

Provide participants with basic knowledge and skills for further independent activities, promote the formation of an active group in the community that can work effectively in a team, attract grants, and develop entrepreneurial initiatives.

Course structure

The program includes seven modules

Module 1. Organizational Psychology

[knowledge and experience aimed at managing relationships in a group/community]. The module lasts 12 hours/3 days. We study the phenomena of teams and groups, in particular the concept of trust and its impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of teams/groups. We also consider the means of developing trust in a group, group roles, leadership styles, causes of conflict, and the importance of organizational culture for the effectiveness and efficiency of teams or groups.

Module 2. Effective Group Communication

The module lasts 12 hours/3 days. We explore the importance of communication to the efficiency of teams or groups. We will also consider communication styles and structure, basic communication skills, the “question” tool, and types of communication depending on the conditions and tasks.

Module 3. Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship.

The duration of the module is 12 hours/3 days. We will analyze in detail the nature of entrepreneurship and the difference between entrepreneurship and business. We will also consider the key concepts [market, product, service] and main functions in entrepreneurship and master basic tools for researching the market environment and managing resources.

Module 4. Fundamentals of Marketing and Communication.

The module lasts 8 hours/2 days. The module is devoted to marketing as one of the main functions of an organization and branding as a tool for territorial development. We will consider the tasks and components of marketing, the basics and tools for effective marketing and branding, and their interaction with internal and external communication.

Module 5. Working with Grants

The module lasts 8 hours/2 days. This module covers the basics of grant management, in particular, the purpose of grants, the process of preparing an idea, and preparing a grant application.

Module 6. Forms of Legal and Economic Implementation.

Various forms of entrepreneurial activity. The module lasts 8 hours/2 days. The module is devoted to the analysis of various forms of organizing the activities of activist groups and their institutionalization. We will look at various organizational and legal forms, including public organizations, business associations, and cooperatives, their advantages, disadvantages, and features of functioning.

Module 7. Strategy.

The module lasts 8 hours / 2 days. This module provides an understanding of strategy, its types, purpose for the community, and conditions of implementation.

Practical tasks are planned during practical tasks:
  1. Analyzing MVP and developing of participants’ proposals for the tourism services market.
  2. Analyzing MVP and developing of participants’ proposals for the tourism services market.
  3. Identifying priority ideas and projects.
  4. Developing an action plan.
  5. Preparing project applications or business plans.
The course timeframes
The course will include 17 meetings of 4 hours each. During the training period, project participants will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for independent work in the future.

  • Organizing the activity of Training Center for Basic Tactical Medicine on the base of the Folk High School Vovchok.
  • Equipping a dormitory for 16 people and two classrooms for the start of classes at the School and Training Center for Basic Tactical Medicine for military and civilians.
  • Preparing development programs for civil society.
  • Instructors are conducting training for unoccupied settlements in Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.
  • Preparing training on mine safety and psychological help.
  • Continue repairing the school.

2016 – 2018 Знайомство з фолькбільдунґом

  • Знайомство із системою освіти Швеції, відвідування першої Народної вищої школи Біскопс Арно.
  • Початок дослідження феномену народної освіти у Швеції (folkbildning) і Народних вищих шкіл.
  • Виникнення гіпотези про те, що скандинавські країни мають унікальну гуманітарну технологію трансформації суспільства, що ґрунтується на галузі неформальної освіти дорослих.
  • Вивчення ролі Народних вищих шкіл як ключового елемента інфраструктури неформальної освіти дорослих.

2019 – 2021 Академічні дослідження

  • Після річних пошуків — придбання двох будівель старої школи (1912 та 1886 років) у селі Вовчок Чернігівської області.
  • Початок ремонтно-відновлювальних робіт.

24 лютого 2022 – серпень 2022 Підготовка інструкторів

  • З перших днів війни ми були зосереджені на організації освітньої діяльності у сфері тактичної медицини для надання допомоги постраждалим під час бойових дій. Фінський дослідник руху Народних вищих шкіл описав основні функції НВШ у роки війни: медична підготовка, підготовка суспільства до життя і діяльності в умовах війни.
  • Партнерство з національною агенцією однієї зі Скандинавських країн для підготовки інструкторів тактичної медицини за стандартами ТССС/ТЕСС. Сприяння в організації ГО «Тактична медицина Північ», засновниками якої стали випускники першого курсу тренерів.
  • Реєстрація ГО «Народна вища школа «Вовчок», відкриття рахунків.
  • Рішення про створення Центру підготовки з основ тактичної медицини для військових та цивільних осіб на базі Народної вищої школи «Вовчок». Підтримка ініціативи партнерами.

Серпень 2022 - до сьогодні Ремонтні роботи і тренінги

  • Організація діяльності навчального центру тактичної медицини на базі Народної вищої школи «Вовчок».
  • Обладнання гуртожитку на 16 місць та двох навчальних аудиторій для початку роботи Школи та Центру підготовки з основ тактичної медицини для військових та цивільних осіб.
  • Підготовка програм розвитку громадянського суспільства.
  • Інструктори проводять два тренінги для деокупованих населених пунктів Київської та Чернігівської областей. 
  • Працюємо над розробкою тренінгів з мінної безпеки та психологічної допомоги.
  • Продовжуємо ремонтні роботи у школі.

February 24, 2022 — the beginning of the war – July 2022 Training instructors

  • Since the very first days of the war, we’ve been focused on the organization of educational activity in the field of tactical medicine to provide assistance to victims of military actions. A Finland researcher working on Folk high school movement described the main functions of FHS in wartime: medical training, training the society to live and act in war.
  • Partnership with a national agency from one of the Scandinavian countries to train Tactical Medicine Instructors on TCCC/TECC Standards. Assistance in organizing the NGO TACTICAL MEDICINE NORTH  organization, founded by the alumni of the first training course.
  • Registering the NGO Folk High School Vovchok organization, opening accounts.
  • The decision to create a Training Center for Basic Tactical Medicine for military and civilians on the base of the Folk High School Vovchok. Support from partners.

2021 Purchasing school building

  • After a year of searches, purchasing two buildings of an old school (1912 and 1886 years) in the Vovchok village, Chernihiv Oblast.
  • Beginning repairing works.

2019 - 2021 Academic research

  • Beginning academic research.
  • Participating in Mimer institution science conference at the University of Linköping (Sweden).
  • Attending Folk High Schools in Malung, Kiruna, Linköping.
  • Studying the works of Folk High School researchers from Northern Europe, Baltics, the USA, Canada, Poland.
  • Confirming the hypothesis about the cornerstone significance of non-formal public adult education to develop a conscious and proactive society.
  • Preparing the Concept of Ukrainian Folk High School project. 

2016 -2018 Meeting Folkbildung

  • Getting acquainted with the Swedish education system, attending Biskops Arnö, the first Folk High School.

  • Beginning the research of Swedish folkbildning and Folk High Schools phenomenon.
  • The emergence of a hypothesis that Scandinavian countries have a unique technology to transform society, based on the field of non-formal public education for adults. 
  • Studying the significance of Folk High Schools as a cornerstone element of non-formal public adult education.
